Radio Free Asia

Radio Free Asia is an independent nonprofit news organization delivering uncensored news in nine Asian languages via radio, web, video, podcasts and social media to audiences where a free press is restricted.

Radio Free Asia (RFA) is an independent, nonprofit news organization that provides accurate, uncensored news and information to people living in countries where a free press is restricted, controlled, or nonexistent. Operating for nearly three decades, it publishes journalism in nine Asian languages and dialects - Mandarin, Cantonese, Tibetan, Uyghur, Burmese, Vietnamese, Lao, Khmer and Korean - serving audiences across China, North Korea, Tibet, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and other regions.

Its newsroom work spans radio broadcasting, digital publishing, video production, podcasting, social-media distribution and multilingual content delivery. Reporting reaches audiences through web, radio, video, podcast and social platforms rather than a single channel, and coverage is produced in the languages of the communities it serves.

RFA is headquartered in Washington, D.C., with editorial and operational bureaus in Taipei, Bangkok and Seoul. It is a 501(c)(3) organisation funded by a federal grant from the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM) and operates with full editorial independence. Staff work in challenging media environments, navigating significant political, legal and personal risks in order to report on places where information is limited or actively suppressed.
