Sentient Media is a nonprofit, nonpartisan news organization founded in 2018 that reports exclusively on factory farms and their effects on climate, animals, workers, clean water, public health and rural communities. Its journalism is fact-checked and science-driven, and is published free of charge, without a paywall and without advertisers. The reporting is aimed particularly at readers in frontline rural communities.
The organisation holds full editorial independence, with no influence over its coverage from donors or board members. It is a 501(c)(3) entity supported by individual readers and foundation grants.
Beyond its newsroom, Sentient Media runs training programmes and partnerships intended to increase informed media coverage of factory farming. A research report produced with Faunalytics found that 93 percent of climate media ignores the impact of meat on greenhouse gas emissions; the report reached more than 700 million people and was attended by over 700 reporters and academics.
Its work spans journalism and news media, climate and the environment, agriculture and factory farming, animal welfare, public health, clean water and rural communities.
