MOVE Texas

A nonpartisan nonprofit building political power among young Texans through voter registration, civic engagement and grassroots organising statewide.

MOVE Texas is a nonpartisan, nonprofit grassroots organisation that builds political power in underrepresented youth communities across Texas. Founded in 2013 by a small group of students at the University of Texas at San Antonio, originally as MOVE UTSA with a mission to increase participation in local elections, it has since expanded from a single campus chapter to a statewide presence. Its stated vision is to build the political power of young people in order to transform democracy in Texas and beyond.

The organisation works through voter registration, civic engagement and grassroots organising, with an emphasis on developing new leaders and educating voters. Two of its principal programmes are the Creator Collective and Community Captain initiatives, both of which engage young Texans in civic life; the latter does so specifically through grassroots organising. The MOVE Texas Action Fund operates as a separate 501(c)(4) entity mobilising young Texans to influence policy and electoral change.

MOVE Texas is regarded as one of the most effective voter registration and civic engagement groups for young people in Texas. Its work sits at the intersection of civic engagement and voter registration, nonprofit advocacy and youth political organising, and it operates under the tagline "Mobilize. Organize. Vote. Empower." Geographic focus is statewide Texas, with roots in San Antonio.
