Movement Innovation Collaborative
Organizer-led nonprofit supporting California's power-building movement through strategy innovation, leadership development and a network of physical and virtual centers.
Movement Innovation Collaborative is an organizer-led nonprofit that works to amplify and accelerate the field of power building in California. It describes itself as a movement lab that deepens and expands the capacity, impact and sustainability of grassroots movements for racial justice and social transformation. Its work focuses on four areas: movement strategy innovation, power-building, intergenerational leadership development, and collective long-term sustainability and resilience.
The organisation's activities centre on two kinds of output. The first is a set of movement innovation offerings - additive and synergistic programmes intended to help changemakers and organisations catalyse innovation in those four areas. The second is a network of physical and virtual 'centers' designed to provide infrastructure for transformative structural change across California. The collaborative states that it works alongside existing movement efforts rather than duplicating them.
Scale figures reported by the organisation include the involvement of over 500 intergenerational community members and organisers in its founding strategic thinking, planning and work, hundreds of organisations served, and tens of thousands of grassroots leaders reached. Its stated emphasis on intergenerational leadership development and on collective long-term sustainability and resilience informs both its programming and its culture.
