Vibrant Emotional Health is a nonprofit organisation founded in 1969, originally as the Mental Health Association of New York City. It provides emotional support, crisis intervention, mental health advocacy and education across the United States, with a particular presence in New York City. Over more than 55 years of operation, its crisis services have helped millions of individuals and families.
The organisation runs several crisis and support services. These include the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, a national technology-enabled service delivering emotional support and care; NYC 988, a New York City crisis intervention and emotional support service; the Disaster Distress Helpline, which provides emotional support following disasters; the NFL Life Line, a crisis support helpline associated with the NFL; and Community Wellness Programs serving people at all stages of life, among them students, older adults, veterans and caregivers.
Work spans several technical domains, including crisis intervention technology, telecommunications-based crisis support, mental health service delivery and behavioural health education. Beyond direct service, the organisation emphasises advocacy and education, and states a commitment to delivering support when, where and how people need it most.
