Open New York

A volunteer-driven non-profit campaigning for housing policy changes across New York State to allow more housing options in every neighbourhood.

Open New York is a grassroots non-profit organisation that advocates for policy changes across New York State to allow more housing options in every neighbourhood and to address the state's housing crisis. Its stated mission is homes for all and homes of all types, covering affordable housing, social and government-subsidised housing and market-rate housing. The group argues for inclusive, stable communities rather than exclusive neighbourhoods.

The organisation combines a growing paid staff with a volunteer base of more than 1,000 active members spread across the state, from Rochester to the Rockaways. Its organising reach is statewide, though much of its activity is concentrated in and around New York City.

Open New York works primarily on housing policy and affordability for New Yorkers. It describes itself as a volunteer-driven organisation and has been expanding its staff alongside its membership. Further information is available at https://opennewyork.org/.
