The National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) is a membership organisation founded in 1962 and the largest association of private, nonprofit K-12 independent schools in the United States. It provides leadership support, data, research, professional development, resources and advocacy to school leaders, administrators, trustees and families. The organisation is membership-driven and works to a stated mission of uniting and empowering its community to shape the future of education.

Its work spans several technical domains, including education data analytics, survey and stakeholder feedback tools, and enrollment and admissions analytics. Products in these areas include DASL (Data and Analysis for School Leadership), which supplies schools with admission and enrollment data; Market View, for enrollment insights; and DataVista, for stakeholder feedback surveys. Publishing and media production form a further strand: NAIS produces Independent School magazine, the blog Independent Ideas, and the podcasts Member Voices and New View EDU.

NAIS also runs substantial convening and training programmes. Thrive: NAIS Annual Conference draws thousands of education professionals each year, and Gather brings together practitioners for further convenings. The NAIS Leadership Academy offers specialised training for independent school leaders, including the Diversity Leadership Institute, which concentrates on diversity leadership, and the Institute for New Heads, which trains newly appointed school heads.

The association operates in the United States across the education and independent-schools sectors. Its stated priorities include investment in leadership development for heads of school and administrators and a focus on diversity and inclusion.
