Milken Institute

A nonprofit, nonpartisan economic think tank founded in 1988-89 that produces research, policy initiatives and events, including the Global Conference.

The Milken Institute is a nonprofit, nonpartisan economic think tank founded in 1989 by Michael Milken and Lowell Milken. Its work combines research and analysis with convening: it develops programs and policy initiatives aimed at global challenges, with the stated aim of connecting human, financial and educational resources to those who need them. Its subject areas include health and well-being, education, employment and workforce, and economic policy and philanthropy.

Institutional output spans several technical domains - economic research and analysis, policy development, convening and events programming, and the development of human capital and education resources. More than 200 events are hosted annually. The flagship is the Global Conference, a gathering of experts, innovators and influencers from varied backgrounds and competing viewpoints; the most recent edition drew over 4,500 participants, more than 900 speakers and 200 sessions.

Research underpins the institute's programmatic work, which supports health and well-being, effective education, gainful employment and access to resources that create expanding opportunities. The organisation describes its orientation as practical and scalable, and holds that promising but under-resourced ideas cannot succeed without support. It has been in operation for more than three decades.

Headquartered in Santa Monica, California, the Milken Institute also maintains a presence in Washington, D.C., New York, London, Abu Dhabi and Singapore.
