Cancer Support Community

Global nonprofit network providing free psychosocial support, education, research and advocacy for people impacted by cancer, through 48 affiliates in 50 markets.

Cancer Support Community is a global nonprofit network that provides free psychosocial support, education, research and advocacy for people affected by cancer. Founded in 1982 by Harold Benjamin and his wife Harriet, a cancer survivor, the organisation was built on the principle that no one should face cancer alone. All of its programmes are offered at no charge to participants.

The organisation's programme portfolio includes free support groups and counselling for patients and their loved ones, educational workshops, healthy lifestyle classes and social programmes designed to build compassionate communities. Its advocacy arm, the Cancer Policy Institute, works to give patients and their families a voice in shaping healthcare policy. The stated aim across these efforts is to break down barriers to care and to improve quality of life for those living with cancer.

Cancer Support Community operates from more than 200 locations across 50 markets worldwide, delivering services to hundreds of thousands of people each year. The network comprises 48 affiliates alongside dedicated headquarters staff in Washington, DC; other named locations include Santa Monica, CA.
