State Policy Network is a national nonprofit, founded in 1992, that supports a network of 62 state think tanks and 100+ national partners advancing free-market policy reform at the state level.
State Policy Network (SPN) is a national organisation founded in 1992 and headquartered in Washington, DC. It describes itself as the only organisation in the country dedicated solely to building and mobilising a durable state-based infrastructure for freedom, supporting a network of independent state think tanks and national partners that advance free-market policy solutions at the state level. Its work spans policy research and analysis, coalition building, message development and educational messaging, leadership training and development, grantmaking, and policy advocacy infrastructure.
The network comprises 62 independent state think tank affiliates and more than 100 national partners, with a presence across the United States. Member organisations are linked through Peer Networks designed to create frequent connections between peers so that successes can be tested and replicated from state to state, and through Multistate Policy Initiatives that connect organisations with information, capital, talent and peer connections across multiple states.
SPN's programmes include Durable Freedom Infrastructure, a strategy intended to push policy reforms across the finish line, withstand legal challenges, win in the court of public opinion and sustain outcomes beyond a single election cycle, alongside strategy support, targeted grants and leadership training that build member organisations' capacity for policy reform and legal defence. Its Annual Meeting convenes the state think tank network and national partners, bringing together more than 1,000 members.
