Good Business Lab is a global NGO that researches worker wellbeing and builds workplace technologies to improve outcomes for workers and employers in labor-intensive manufacturing.
Good Business Lab is a global NGO and labor innovation organization founded in 2017 by economists Achyuta Adhvaryu and Anant Nyshadham together with business leader Anant Ahuja. It works to create pathways out of poverty for the world's working poor by studying how investments in worker wellbeing affect outcomes for both workers and businesses. Its premise is that high-quality formal-sector jobs are the most effective route to economic empowerment, and that employers who invest in their people are more profitable.
The organization's approach is research-driven, drawing on rigorous academic research, randomized controlled trials, quasi-experimental methods and labor economics to design evidence-based interventions. Its work spans five focus areas - climate, health, livelihoods, gender and workplace - and is directed at worker wellbeing and dignity in labor-intensive manufacturing and formal-sector employment.
Good Business Lab operates in eight countries across the Global South and has worked with over 100 partner organizations. In 2021 it launched GBL Ventures, a unit that builds market-ready, scalable workplace technologies for labor-intensive manufacturing environments. Two products have emerged from it: Inache, a worker-voice technology, and STITCH, a managerial training product.
