Foodliteracyproject

The Food Literacy Project engages youth and families in hands-on education on sustainable agriculture, food systems, nutrition and food justice, alongside community initiatives for a more equitable food system.

The Food Literacy Project is a mission-driven organisation working at the intersection of education, sustainable agriculture and food justice. It engages youth and families in hands-on learning and transformative experiences around food systems, nutrition and agriculture, with the aim of cultivating healthy habits and informed food choices.

Its work falls into two broad areas. The first is a set of hands-on education programmes for young people and families, designed to build practical understanding of where food comes from and how it is grown. The second is a portfolio of community initiatives, developed collaboratively by educators, agricultural experts and community advocates, to advance a more equitable and sustainable food system.

The organisation describes itself as collaborative and inclusive, with a team drawn from teaching, agriculture and community advocacy. Staff work on community projects with visible local impact and have access to fresh, locally grown produce. Flexible work schedules are offered to support work-life balance, and professional development and growth opportunities form part of the employment proposition. The stated shared vision is a more equitable and sustainable food system.

Fields of work include food literacy education, sustainable agriculture, food systems and nutrition education, and community engagement, spanning the education, nonprofit and community development sectors.
