A national nonprofit working to end poverty-related hunger and undernutrition in the United States through research, advocacy, partnerships, and policy work on federal nutrition programs.
The Food Research & Action Center (FRAC) is a national nonprofit organisation working to eradicate poverty-related hunger and undernutrition in the United States. Its methods are advocacy, research, partnerships, and equitable policy solutions, applied across the federal nutrition programmes that make up the country's main defence against food insecurity. The organisation has operated for more than five decades and works nationally.
FRAC's programme work spans the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), school breakfast and school lunch programmes, and summer meals and afterschool nutrition programmes. In each case the work combines policy analysis and advocacy with nutrition research and data analysis. Beyond its own programme portfolio, the organisation supplies technical assistance, training, outreach, and communications support to partner organisations, public agencies, corporations, schools, and labour organisations.
Staff work is organised around several technical domains: nutrition research, policy analysis and advocacy, research and data analysis, coalition-building and outreach, technical assistance and training, and communications strategy. FRAC operates through a partnership network that includes hundreds of national, state, and local nonprofit organisations, public agencies, corporations, schools, and labour organisations, and its culture is described as advocacy-oriented, collaborative, and centred on equity and the well-being of people struggling against poverty-related hunger.
