A nonprofit founded in 2001 that helps providers deliver evidence-based group medical visits for maternal and early childhood health at about 480 U.S. sites.
Centering Healthcare Institute (CHI) is a nonprofit founded in 2001 that promotes the evidence-based Centering group model of care. The model structures billable group medical visits, giving healthcare providers a framework for delivering care in a group setting while building community among patients. Its focus is maternal and early childhood health.
The institute works with healthcare providers from all sectors and with partner organisations to implement the model. Approximately 480 Centering sites operate across more than 40 U.S. states and territories, serving roughly 28,000 patients in 2025. CHI is headquartered in Boston and operates throughout the United States.
CHI describes its mission in terms of health equity: combating patient isolation, empowering both providers and patients, and reducing racial disparities in birth outcomes. The organisation works across healthcare, maternal health, early childhood health and public health, and has operated for more than two decades.
