The New York Foundling
Nonprofit social services agency founded in 1869, running 40 evidence-based programmes in child welfare, developmental disabilities, education, health and justice services across New York and Puerto Rico.
The New York Foundling is a nonprofit social services agency serving children, adults, and families. Founded in 1869 by the Roman Catholic Sisters of Charity, it is one of New York City's oldest nonprofits and has operated for more than 150 years. The organisation employs 2,500 people and serves more than 30,000 individuals annually.
Its work is organised around five core service areas: child welfare, including foster care; services for individuals with developmental disabilities; education programmes; health and behavioural health services; and intervention programmes for justice-involved youth and adults. In total, the agency runs 40 evidence-based programmes across these areas.
The New York Foundling operates across all five New York City boroughs, plus Rockland, Orange and Westchester Counties, and maintains 43 sites in Puerto Rico. Its stated focus is on the stability, strength and independence of the people it serves.
