The Energy Authority

The Energy Authority partners with public power utilities nationwide on energy trading, portfolio management, analytics, renewable solutions and strategic advisory services.

The Energy Authority (TEA) is a public power-focused energy organisation founded in 1997 that partners with public power utilities across the United States. It provides energy trading, portfolio management, analytics, renewable energy solutions and strategic advisory services, working on a partnership model in which it was created by public power to serve public power.

TEA represents more than 80 partner public power utilities, covering over 35,000 MW of peak demand and 30,000 MW of installed generation capacity. Its service lines include Portfolio Management and Energy Trading, which covers day-to-day market operations, asset optimization and market risk management for utilities; Advanced Analytics, providing data-driven support for operational and market decisions; Renewable Solutions, helping utilities manage rising renewable penetration and plan for the energy transition; and Strategic Advisory Services, spanning long-term energy transition planning and operational strategy for municipal utilities.

The organisation employs specialists across trading, risk management, data science and engineering, and develops proprietary technology platforms underpinning its analytics and market operations. Technical work spans advanced analytics, data science, risk management, renewable energy solutions and engineering. Its stated emphasis is on improving the operations of the utilities it works with and the communities those utilities serve.
