Clean Air Task Force

Nonprofit founded in 1996 researching, modeling and advocating for low-carbon energy and climate technologies, with staff working virtually across four continents.

Clean Air Task Force is a nonprofit founded in 1996 that works to safeguard against the worst impacts of climate change by catalysing the rapid global development and deployment of low-carbon energy and other climate-protecting technologies. Its staff work virtually across four continents, supported by offices in Boston, Washington D.C. and Brussels. The organisation operates over 30 years after its founding and is consistently ranked as the most effective climate organisation in the world.

The work spans several technical domains: climate science, energy systems modeling and analysis, low-carbon energy technology, carbon capture and emissions reduction, technology commercialization, climate and energy policy analysis, and legal and legislative advocacy. Its output falls into four areas - scientific and technical research and analysis underpinning climate and energy strategies; modeling and systems analysis used to drive support for effective policy and technology strategies; technology innovation programmes that facilitate the commercialisation of emerging low-carbon technologies; and policy advocacy through legal and legislative channels to advance zero-emissions energy policy.

The team is multidisciplinary, bringing together scientists, engineers, MBAs, policy experts, lawyers and communication experts. The organisation describes itself as science-driven, solutions-focused and strategic, working from facts rather than ideology, with a mission oriented towards an affordable, zero-emissions, high-energy future.
