Winrock International is a nonprofit organisation founded in 1985 that works with people in the United States and around the world to empower the disadvantaged, increase economic opportunity and sustain natural resources. It maintains offices in Arlington, Virginia and Little Rock, Arkansas, alongside project offices in dozens of countries. Its project experience spans more than 60 countries and numerous U.S. states, covering hundreds of agriculture, environment and social development assignments.
The organisation's technical work covers agriculture, environmental management, clean energy, water security, climate resilience, nature-based solutions, carbon accounting and verification, greenhouse gas registry operations, social development, human rights, and entrepreneurship and economic opportunity. Delivery runs through five core program areas - Agriculture, Entrepreneurship, Environment, Human Rights and U.S. Programs - supported by several affiliated entities. These include the American Carbon Registry (ACR), founded in 1996 as the first private voluntary greenhouse gas registry in the world and managed by Winrock; Environmental Resources Trust (ERT), which develops science-based accounting standards and oversees carbon credit verification; and the Wallace Center, focused on sustainable food systems.
Winrock states a commitment to good science, sound economics and innovation, and to locally-led approaches. It describes its work as mission-driven, with the belief that knowledge can improve lives and that solutions should address pressing development challenges.
