Footprint Project

A 501(c)(3) non-profit deploying mobile solar, batteries and microgrids to decarbonise disaster response and build community resilience.

Footprint Project is a 501(c)(3) non-profit disaster management organisation founded in 2018 and headquartered in New Orleans, Louisiana. It develops and deploys sustainable infrastructure networks, with the stated aims of strengthening community resilience and decarbonising disaster response. Its work centres on mobile solar energy, battery energy storage and microgrids, applied to both emergency operations and longer-term recovery.

The organisation runs four programmes: Rapid Disaster Response, which deploys clean energy resources during active crises; Long-Term Resilience, supporting communities facing increasing extreme weather; Community Builds, involving community-based construction of clean energy infrastructure; and Upcycled Energy, which reuses energy equipment to cut fossil fuel consumption and waste.

Footprint Project reports more than 30 disaster response and recovery missions completed, over 300 kilowatts of mobile solar and 4 megawatt hours of mobile batteries deployed, over 250 resilience hubs powered during outages, and more than 500 responders trained. Over 50,000 people have been provided with energy access during power outages. The organisation's work has been recognised by TIME's Best Inventions of 2022 and Microgrid Knowledge's Person of the Year, and it promotes its mission under the #BuildBackGreener initiative.
