Covenant House Florida

Faith-inspired nonprofit providing 24/7 shelter, transitional housing, outreach and support services to youth aged 18-24 experiencing homelessness across Florida.

Covenant House Florida is a faith-inspired 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving young people experiencing homelessness and housing instability in Florida. Founded in 1982, it operates from two locations, Fort Lauderdale and Orlando, and is one of the largest private agencies serving unhoused youth in the state. The organisation works with young adults aged 18-24 and reaches hundreds of young people each year. It forms part of the wider Covenant House network.

Its Fort Lauderdale site runs a 24/7 emergency shelter for youth aged 18-24, offering basic necessities, urgent medical care, counselling, and wrap-around support including career and education navigation. In Orlando, the agency provides transitional housing through scattered-site apartments across Orange and Osceola Counties, alongside case management, counselling, and guidance on education and employment; the Orlando location does not operate an emergency shelter. A third strand of work covers outreach, supportive services, housing programmes and aftercare, extending support beyond shelter and housing placements.

The organisation is guided by the Covenant House principles of immediacy, sanctuary, value communication, structure, and choice, and states a commitment to unconditional love and relentless support, with an stated aim of ending youth homelessness. It is funded through community support, partnerships and donations. Relevant sectors span social services, emergency shelter and transitional housing, urgent medical care, behavioural health and counselling, and education and workforce development.
