American Consumer Credit Counseling (ACCC) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization founded in 1991 and headquartered in Massachusetts. It provides services to consumers nationwide, including individuals and families struggling with debt. Its stated aim is to help clients achieve financial wellness and lasting financial self-sufficiency.
ACCC's work spans several service lines: confidential, personalised credit counseling; Debt Management Plans that consolidate unsecured debts into manageable monthly payments; bankruptcy counseling for consumers considering or undergoing bankruptcy; housing counseling and support; and financial education programmes delivered through tools and services. The organisation reports having helped more than one million American consumers over more than three decades of operation.
Operating within the consumer credit counseling, debt management, financial education, housing counseling and nonprofit sectors, ACCC describes its approach as compassionate and client-centred, with an emphasis on confidentiality.
