The Institute of Internal Auditors (The IIA) is the global professional association and authority on internal auditing. Founded in 1941 and headquartered in Lake Mary, Florida, the organisation has operated for more than eight decades and serves internal audit professionals in 170 countries worldwide, supported by a network of local chapters and affiliates.
The IIA sets standards and credentials for the profession. Its International Professional Practices Framework (IPPF) provides the reference framework for internal audit practices globally. Among its credentials, the Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) certification is the only globally recognised internal audit credential; the institute also offers the Certification in Risk Management Assurance (CRMA) and the Internal Audit Practitioner credential.
Beyond standards and certification, The IIA delivers professional development, research, and resources for internal audit professionals, including Internal Auditor magazine and an annual International Conference that brings together audit leaders from around the world. Its work focuses on helping internal auditors mitigate risks, provide assurance, and drive organizational value.
