HRCI is a non-profit credentialing body for the human resource profession, founded in 1973 and headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia. It sets standards for HR expertise through a portfolio of eight global certifications, professional learning programmes and organisational certification services. Its certified professionals form a community spanning more than 150 countries, and the organisation partners with higher education institutions, corporations and government agencies worldwide.

Its credentials include the PHR (Professional in Human Resources) and SPHR (Senior Professional in Human Resources) for HR practitioners and senior leaders, and the GPHR (Global Professional in Human Resources) for those working across borders. Beyond individual certification, HRCI provides organisational certification services aligned with International Organization for Standardization (ISO) human resources management standards, and holds a leadership role in ISO/TC 260, the technical committee for HR management.
