Sound Generations is a multiservice nonprofit serving older adults and people with disabilities in King County, Washington. Founded in 1967, it describes itself as the state's most comprehensive provider of integrated programmes promoting positive aging and dignity, and it is the largest community partner of Aging and Disability Services. The organisation works across King County and Western Washington.
Its services span several domains: food security and nutrition, accessible transportation, health and wellness programming, assistance and support services, professional development and education, and home repair and aging-in-place work. Flagship programmes include Meals on Wheels, a meal-delivery service for older adults; the Hyde Shuttle, a transport service for older adults and people with disabilities; Community Dining at senior centres; the Elder Education Institute, which provides professional development in aging services; and Minor Home Repair Services, which helps seniors remain in their homes.
The organisation has operated for more than five decades and holds a four-star rating from Charity Navigator. Through its annual Inspire Positive Aging Awards, it has honoured more than 600 older adults across Western Washington. Its stated working principles include dignity, respect, transparency, inclusive and accessible service delivery, and partnership with the older adults it serves.
