The Arc of South Florida

Miami-Dade nonprofit founded in 1953 providing programmes, education, guardianship, trust, and transportation services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The Arc of South Florida is a nonprofit organisation serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Miami-Dade County, Florida. Founded in 1953 by a group of concerned parents, it operates as a local chapter of The Arc, one of the largest volunteer organisations in the United States, and is governed by volunteers through a Board of Directors. The organisation serves more than 1,000 individuals with developmental disabilities and reaches hundreds of participants each day through its programmes.

Its services span the lifespan of its clients. Children & Youth Programmes and ACE Academy, a special education private school, cover younger participants; Adult Services provide programmes for adults with developmental disabilities. Complementing these are Arc Guardianship & Case Management Services, Arc South Florida Trust Services, and Transportation Services for individuals with developmental disabilities.

Each programme is structured and designed to meet the specific needs of individual clients. The organisation's stated aim is to help people with disabilities lead meaningful and fulfilling lives while living, working, learning, and playing in their communities. It operates across the non-profit, human services, intellectual and developmental disabilities services, and special education sectors.
