Immigrant Legal Resource Center

A nonprofit that analyses immigration law and policy, trains legal service providers nationwide, and advocates to advance immigrant rights.

The Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC) is a nonprofit organization that analyses immigration law and policy, trains legal service providers who work with immigrants, and advocates to advance immigrant rights. Founded in 1979 by Professor Bill Ong Hing, it began as the Golden Gate Immigration Clinic and was established to meet an unfulfilled need for legal services to immigrant clients. Its work spans immigration law and policy analysis, legal training and education, capacity building for legal services, immigrant rights advocacy and civic engagement.

The organisation is recognised as one of the nation's premier sources of immigration law and policy analysis. It trains attorneys, paralegals and community-based advocates who work with immigrants around the country, and it engages the media, elected officials and the public to shape immigration policy and law. ILRC collaborates with grassroots immigrant organisations and promotes civic engagement and social change as part of its mission-driven focus on immigrant rights.

ILRC is headquartered in San Francisco, with staff in Washington, D.C., Texas, Southern California, the Central Valley of California and Washington state. Its geographic spread supports a national remit across the United States. The organisation operates within the immigration law, legal services, nonprofit advocacy, immigrant rights and civic engagement sectors.
