IAVI is a global nonprofit biomedical research organization founded in 1996. It develops vaccines and antibodies for HIV, tuberculosis, and emerging infectious diseases, and translates scientific discoveries into public health solutions designed to be affordable and globally accessible. Headquartered in New York, the organization operates hubs across Africa, Europe, India, and the United States.
The work spans vaccine development, antibody discovery and engineering, broadly neutralizing antibodies (bnAbs), clinical and product development, biologics development, epidemiology and observational studies, and infectious disease research. IAVI's Product Development Center supports biologics candidates from discovery through clinical advancement; 53 candidates have been supported and 25 have advanced to clinical trials. Other programmes cover HIV vaccine candidates and bnAbs, as well as vaccines and antibodies for tuberculosis and for emerging infectious diseases including Lassa virus, Marburg virus, Sudan virus, and Bundibugyo virus.
IAVI was the first product-development partnership created specifically to develop an HIV vaccine. Its model is collaborative, working with more than 255 partners across academic institutions, biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, civil society, and global health initiatives. Observational epidemiology studies have enrolled over 70,000 volunteers worldwide. The organization describes a mission-driven culture with a commitment to equity: solutions are intended to reach people regardless of geographic or economic barriers.
