CDC Foundation

Independent nonprofit that mobilizes private-sector support for CDC, running programs in emergency outbreak response, chronic disease prevention, public health data systems and community health infrastructure.

The CDC Foundation is an independent nonprofit authorized by Congress to mobilize private-sector resources for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), bridging the gap between government capabilities and urgent public health needs. Founded in 1995, it has launched more than 1,450 programs and raised over $2.2 billion for public health work, reaching all 50 U.S. states and more than 75 countries.

Its activities span five main areas: emergency response programs, which deploy resources rapidly during outbreaks such as Ebola, Zika and COVID-19; chronic disease programs targeting killers such as cardiovascular disease and cancer; programmes to strengthen state and local health departments; modernisation of public health data systems; and support for community-based organisations building sustainable health infrastructure in underserved communities.

The organisation works through partnerships with CDC, philanthropies, corporations and individuals, and states a focus on accountability, health equity and measurable impact. Employees and partners work across fields including public health, healthcare, data systems and the nonprofit sector.
