Groundwork USA

Groundwork USA is a remote team that supports a national network of independent, community-centered nonprofits across the United States. Working arrangements are built around distributed work, with home-office support, generous paid leave, wellness time and professional-development funding. Benefits are designed to support employees and their families, and the organisation promotes sustainable work practices alongside peer learning and shared practices across its affiliates.

The national office strengthens local capacity through funding, shared services, training and collaborative programming, while local teams tailor programmes to neighbourhood priorities. Affiliates combine deep local knowledge with common standards and technical assistance, drawing on domains including climate adaptation, land restoration, urban forestry, environmental justice, youth leadership and workforce development.

At the centre of the work is place-based action. Groundwork USA works alongside residents, public officials, businesses and its affiliates to transform neglected land, contaminated properties, waterways and underused spaces into parks, trails, gardens and green spaces. This site-level work is paired with systems-level programming intended to address the environmental conditions behind those sites. Leadership is described as collaborative and resident-rooted.
