ATCC
ATCC is a nonprofit biological resource center providing authenticated cell products, microbial cultures, reference materials and biorepository services to life science research.
ATCC, the American Type Culture Collection, is a private, nonprofit biological resource center and standards organisation founded in 1925. It supplies authenticated biomaterials and supporting resources to the international life science research community. Its holdings include what the organisation describes as the world's largest and most diverse collection of human and animal cell products, alongside authenticated microbial cultures, molecular genomic tools, and reference materials.
The organisation's reference materials are cited as standards by bodies including the US FDA, USDA, CLSI, the US Pharmacopeia, the European Pharmacopeia and the WHO. Technical work spans cell biology and cell line authentication, microbiology, molecular genomics, biopreservation and biorepository services, and biomaterial deposit and standards development. Authentication and genomic work employs Droplet Digital PCR, CRISPR gene editing and next-generation sequencing. ATCC also produces master and working cell banks and operates a cGMP commercial biorepository.
ATCC is headquartered at its bioproduction facility in Manassas, Virginia, with research and technology centres of excellence in Gaithersburg and Germantown, Maryland. Through ATCC Federal Solutions, it provides consulting and expertise to federal agencies in global health, infectious diseases, biodefense and noncommunicable diseases, serving the life science, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, clinical diagnostics and regulatory sectors worldwide.
