The Archdiocese of Baltimore is the first Catholic diocese established in the United States, founded on November 6, 1789, and elevated to an archdiocese on April 8, 1808. It serves Catholics across the City of Baltimore and eight surrounding Maryland counties - Allegany, Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Frederick, Harford, Howard - reaching hundreds of thousands of faithful. Its work spans worship, education, ministries and social services.

The archdiocese operates a Catholic school system of 54 schools serving nearly 25,000 students, offering educational formation grounded in Catholic values and academic excellence. Beyond education, its ministries network includes Black Catholic Ministry, Hispanic Ministry, Prison Ministry, Respect Life, Youth and Young Adult Ministry, Marriage and Family Life, Campus Ministry, Deaf Ministry and mental wellness resources. Catholic Charities provides charitable services to the community, the Marriage Tribunal handles canonical marriage cases, and vocations programmes support priests and religious life.

Employment spans several fields: K-12 education, social services and charitable work, pastoral and campus ministry, and canonical tribunal services. The archdiocese provides a benefits package including health, dental and vision coverage, life insurance, retirement plans and generous leave policies. It describes its culture as mission-driven, with an emphasis on faith, hope and love and a welcoming worshipping community.
