Altarum

Nonprofit founded in 1946 partnering with government health agencies on public health research, health IT, Medicaid support and programme evaluation for underserved populations.

Altarum is a nonprofit organisation founded in 1946 that works to improve the health of individuals with fewer financial resources and disenfranchised populations. It partners with federal, state and local health agencies to translate health care policy into practice, bringing nearly eight decades of experience to public sector health programmes.

Its work spans public health research and evaluation, health IT and interoperability, health systems modernisation, surveillance systems and Medicaid programme support. Projects include lead poisoning surveillance, support for Medicaid unwinding efforts, the integration of peer recovery support services into criminal justice programmes, and health infrastructure built for scale and true interoperability. The organisation's verticals cover health care, public health, government health agencies, Medicaid, criminal justice and health IT.

Altarum combines independent research rigour with client-centred consulting, and describes its approach as hands-on and systems-based. Staff work in collaborative partnership with public agencies on applied research, programme evaluation and the implementation of health care policy, with a mission focus on serving vulnerable and financially disadvantaged populations.
