AAAS

AAAS, founded in 1848, is a multidisciplinary scientific society and publisher of the journal Science, working in science policy, publishing, communication and STEMM education.

AAAS, founded in 1848, is the world's largest multidisciplinary scientific society. It was established by scientists and engineers seeking a unified national voice for science and engineering in the United States, and its stated mission is to advance science for the benefit of all people. The organisation serves more than 10 million individuals through memberships, publications and programmes, and works across the disciplines rather than within a single one.

The society is best known as the publisher of Science, the multidisciplinary journal founded in 1880 with seed money from Thomas Edison, which has been at the centre of major scientific discoveries since its inception. Alongside the journal, AAAS produces further scientific publications and runs membership services for individuals across scientific disciplines, as well as programmes supporting science, policy engagement and the broadening of participation in STEMM fields - science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine.

AAAS also acts as a voice on science-related public matters, providing policymakers with objective scientific information and advocating on questions of funding, policy and education. Its areas of work span science policy, scientific publishing, scientific communication and STEMM education and participation, within the broader sectors of science and research, academic publishing and science and engineering advocacy.
