Resources for Human Development

National human services nonprofit founded in 1970, running 115-plus behavioural health, housing, disability and community health programmes across 12 U.S. states.

Resources for Human Development (RHD) is a national human services nonprofit founded in 1970. The organisation provides services intended to help people of all abilities achieve independence and build better lives, with particular attention to individuals and families facing complex needs such as mental illness, substance abuse, post-traumatic stress and chronic homelessness.

RHD's work is organised across several service categories. Behavioral Health and Housing (BHH) covers behavioural health and housing programmes; Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) provides day and residential services; and a Healthcare category encompasses community health centre care. Within that last sits the Family Practice & Counseling Network, a network of nurse-managed community health centres that cares for more than 22,000 patients a year.

The organisation operates more than 115 programmes in 12 U.S. states on an annual budget of more than $200m, and serves more than 50,000 children and adults annually through day and residential services. Its stated values are caring, effective and innovative service, with an emphasis on self-sufficiency and community building. RHD has grown from a single programme with two employees and a $50,000 budget in 1970 to a national organisation. Headquarters: United States. Website: https://rhd.org/
