Assets Under Movement
A 501(c)(3) public charity and national philanthropic platform rooted in the labour movement, offering donor-advised funds, collaborative giving funds and fiscal sponsorship to move capital to social movements.
Assets Under Movement (AUM+) is a 501(c)(3) public charity and national philanthropic platform founded in 2018. Rooted in the labor movement, it connects capital to social movements at scale through what it describes as dynamic infrastructure, operational expertise and a people-centered partnership model. The organisation operates across the United States and was formerly known as Amalgamated Charitable Foundation before rebranding to reflect an evolved mission and expanded capabilities.
Its work is organised around three services. Donor-Advised Funds allow individual donors, institutional funders and social entrepreneurs to deploy money to the field quickly; fund holders pay out an average of 75% of assets a year, roughly three times the national average. Collaborative Giving Funds pool and co-ordinate capital for social movements, while Fiscal Sponsorship supports entrepreneurs and organisations in getting funds out the door. Since 2018 AUM+ has deployed more than $1.5 billion in grant capital, making it the third-largest intermediary in social justice philanthropy.
The organisation's operating principles emphasise speed, flexibility and rigour in moving money, on the stated premise that capital held is impact delayed; success is measured by capital activated rather than assets held. It describes its approach as trust-based philanthropy, conducted in a spirit of trust, with a commitment to thoughtful urgency in getting funds to the field. Staff work across philanthropy, the nonprofit and charitable sector and the labour movement.
