US nonprofit founded in 1982 conserving pheasants, quail and other wildlife through habitat work, land access, education and policy advocacy, with 750+ local chapters and 300+ staff biologists.
Pheasants Forever, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) charitable organisation founded in 1982 to conserve pheasants, quail and other wildlife through habitat improvement, public access to land, education and conservation advocacy. The organisation, which describes itself as "The Habitat Organization", is the nation's largest nonprofit dedicated to upland habitat conservation. It employs over 300 staff biologists and draws on technical work in upland wildlife biology, habitat improvement and conservation policy.
The organisation operates through a network of more than 750 local chapters across the United States. Chapters retain 100 percent decision-making control over funds raised locally, which supports wildlife habitat projects and youth conservation events in their own communities. Thousands of habitat projects are carried out each year, funded largely by more than 750 annual fundraising events, chiefly chapter banquets.
Pheasants Forever also maintains a unified voice on state and federal conservation policy. It reports more than 480,000 members, supporters and partners. The organisation is grassroots and volunteer-driven, with roots in the concerns of pheasant hunters about declining upland habitat, and places emphasis on community-based projects and youth conservation education.
